GVR Aviation is established in June 2008 by Nils Kolstein. Nils has been an active aviation photographer for over 20 years starting his hobby near the then very active runway of Soesterberg AB. A long way of improving equipment, but also techniques started and this road still continues until this day. Nils has been active in the Spotting Group The Hillkillers homegroup of Soesterberg AB and is webmaster of their site www.sghk.nl. He has also been a member of APC Aviation a group of enthousiastic photographers with a wider aviation photography scope. APC focussed not only on military aviation but also civil aviation. Unfortunately, APC cancelled their activities in 2008 due to time constraints. But bloods runs thick and so Nils decided to pick up things for itself and create this site. The acronym GVR stands for the Dutch "Grote Vriendelijke Reus" (Big Friendly Giant) and is a direct link to Nils' phyisical posture which gave him his nickname by a colleague. As always, nicknames should be given and not taken and so the GVR name stuck. In a way it also symbolizes Nils' way of doing things. Friendly, easy-going with a strong emphazis on fun and a genuine interest in no only the subject matter but also its surroundings, whether it's the people or the natural surroundings in (military) aviation without compromises in quality or perfection. The goal of this website is twofold. Showing interested enthousiasts my work as a photographic log of my trips. Next to that I am willing to publish any material to magazines, e-zines or other media for those interested. Please contact me for further info @ info@gvr-aviation.nl. I have alo created a blog part on this site which is regularly updated with some thoughts on the aviation and spotters community. I usually let the pictures speak for itself but sometimes writing a small piece whith some thoughts can be a great relief.
